Well, it's now finished and online: a project that's been lurking in my WIP folder for 3 years before finally been taken up and completed over the course of this past summer. It's a 9 song breakbeat EP, a little like Squarepusher's "Be Up A Hello" in tone, if nowhere near as technically sophisticated. I'm canny happy with it. This has been a rare project from me where there's actually quite a lot of my own synth patches and sounds - usually I just grab presets and do some minimal tweaking, but I've put more work into doing stuff from scratch this time. Admittedly I'm still a noob at sound design, but I'm pleased with the resulting vibes.
Another thing I'm liking about this EP is the generally optimistic feel of it: it's totally at odds with the issues - the growing sense of alienation and despair over the state of the world - that have inspired it. That's very fucking rare for me given that I'm by nature a pessimist, and my music is generally shot through with melancholy, yet that's largely absent here for some reason.
