Seems like a long time since I last posted an update, and you find me once again on holiday, though this one has been a tad more productive than the last, despite me going down with the lurgy last Friday and missing two frigging gigs because of it (MarraFest on Sunday, with Onlooker, Slalom D, Irked and Tin Ribs, and then Lambrini Girls in Toon on Monday). Anyway, I've mostly recovered now, excepting a certain degree of snottiness.
We've been continuing to work on the Dem13 project: we now have around 11 songs recorded (one admittedly an instrumental, and another still needing another verse to be recorded). It's been a couple of weeks though since the last recording session due to illnesses. We seem to have finally settled on a title (more or less) but I'm still not sure how far this is from finished. I did suggest trimming it down to a 6 song EP, but we haven't had a chance to sit down and talk about it properly. I think it's still likely to be early next year before we have anything ready to release.
That isn't the case with my solo stuff though. The quick DnB EP idea that I'd previously mentioned has been blossoming: it's looking like a 5-track mixture of DnB and breaks. I've got three finished and two more about half-done. The project is likely to come out under the name Mildly Misfunctional, possibly as soon as this weekend, but more likely next. The tracks are all titled and I have an idea for cover art that should look cool and as it involves reusing stuff I've already made for different Blender projects, it shouldn't take long to do.
Speaking of Blender, I haven't done much with it recently: just a rough concept for the Dem13 cover which, it suddenly occurs to me, I haven't even sent to Budd yet. Better do that now...
Other stuff.... I've finally stopped procrastinating and begun the process of migrating my computer to a Linux operating system. I've picked Mint, cos I'm obviously a basic bitch and want to avoid using the terminal as far as possible. I've got Renoise working on it (though for some reason Renoise isn't recognising external hard-drives, even though they are working on the OS itself and I can drag/drop song files and samples from them into Renoise to load; it's just kind of irritating that I can't then directly save projects in Renoise onto my storage HD: I've had to save them on one drive and then copy them over to the storage drive manually through Mint's file browser.) I still haven't been able to summon the moral fortitude to try getting VST plug-ins to work though, largely just because even when they work, installing all my instruments and FX plug-ins is a frigging long and tedious chore, and right now, I've got music to write, and can't be fucked on with digital domestic labour.
Owt else...? I went to the pictures with Budd to see the new Frankenstein film: it was alright, though the absurd superhero comic-book physics irritated me and spoiled the vibe for me. Budd seems to have liked it a lot more than me though. Also watched an old documentary film about a band called Half Japanese, which I may do a review of if it's still fresh enough in mind when I get the time. Also had several weeks of arseache at work with some disciplinary bullshit over clocking in a couple of minutes late. It's like being at frigging school again sometimes. Also, I turned 45 yesterday. Time definitely seems to be speeding up. :-/
